Surprisingly, blockchain technology wasn't his first choice. At the beginning, he thought that game development is what he would like to do in life. Until he discovered machine learning and later blockchain. Today he is involved in almost all crypto-related projects at Ulam Labs. We would like to present Łukasz, our Blockchain Developer. Read on to learn more about his role at the company and his journey with this technology.

How long do you work at Ulam Labs and what do you do here?

I’m a blockchain developer and less than a year has passed since I started working at Ulam, but it was definitely very progressive.

Do you remember your recruiting process?

I remember being stressed out. I really wanted to get this job, because I thought it would be interesting. Fortunately, the atmosphere at the company was calming. I found that the job offer for python developer didn’t quite represent what I would be doing, but instead turned out to be more captivating.

What are you working on right now?

It’s a secret ;) I work on a very involved project that is built on top of the Algorand blockchain with an overseas client.

What was your development path?

I learned the basics of programming when I was 13. I started with algorithms and back then my dream was to become a game developer. I was partially successful with that after winning a game dev hackathon with a team of very talented programmers. While I was improving my skills I discovered that gaming is not the only interesting thing that programmers do. I have stumbled across machine learning and later blockchain, both of which had a very interesting premise.

Why did you choose blockchain as your main field of specialization?

It’s kind of like asking Tony Hawk why he chose the skateboard. It just works. As Confucius said “Choose a job you love and you won’t work a day in your life”. That’s why I’m a blockchain developer now, but who knows what I will be doing in the future? The only thing I’m sure of is that it will be related to programming. This is a part of my life plan and so far everything is going well.

What do you enjoy most about working at UL?

In Ulam I met a lot of inspiring people who work with commitment to our mutual goals. We support each other every time an issue arises. Some of us even spend time together after work, because we enjoy each other's company. I also have possibilities to travel to work with clients and explore other countries and cultures. Connecting my passions with work is the best thing that happened to me here.

What has been the most interesting project for you so far?

I am excited every time I face a creative challenge. I love to invent and refine new solutions. Every chance for self-development is important to me and gives me satisfaction. There is no single project that is my favourite, because each assignment has something new and interesting in it.

What skills are the most important for your role?

Working as a programmer allowed me to meet many people more experienced than me. It was very valuable to learn from their experience. Besides, I think that the ability to concentrate on the task and a clear mind are both important. Achieving the results effectively comes easier when you separate work from everyday life and rest in your spare time as much as you need.

What advice would you give others interested in working at Ulam Labs?

If you feel that this is a company for you and you will find yourself in our team, just apply for an interesting position. You don’t risk anything, and you can work with us developing the programming world. I will say from myself that it is worth living in harmony with yourself and your interests. So if you like to solve challenging problems, you can cope with them here.
